Colonial House offers a number of Windsor chair styles from several manufacturers. Windsor chairs hand-crafted by River Bend Chair Co uses the same techniques utilized 200 years ago, each chair is carefully handcrafted and beautifully finished. Today, Windsor chairs are typically made of several woods: pine may be used for the seat; ash, hickory, or oak for bent pieces; and maple for legs and spindles. These woods are chosen for their specific qualities, which add strength in each location of the chair.
Chairs and settees from River Bend Chair Company are among the few classic Windsor’s made today. Seats are cut from wide, white pine and are deeply saddled for comfort and authenticity. The underside of each seat is planed by hand and deeply branded with the chair maker’s name. All bent backs and arms are made from a single piece of red or white oak-not glued laminations. Oak is also wedged in fastening legs and spindles in place. Each knuckle and ear is hand carved, showing not only quality craftsmanship, but the time and detail invested in every chair. Finally, River Bend chairs can be finished with one of over 35 different types of finishes, including traditional Windsor colors (green, red, black, brown, yellow, and white.)
All the Windsor chairs are available with a comb. Rocker and Settees are also available. These chairs are heirloom-quality with a museum finish. Call for information or pictures of a specific chair. We can also have chairs shipped directly to your home.
